Drawing of a Decorated Moulding

Institution

Schola Graphidis Art Collection, Hungarian University of Fine Arts - High School of Visual Arts, Budapest

Object description:

The architectural drawing represents a moulding decorated with Classical motifs, its section and orthographic depiction in one image. The drawing was made around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, probably in the Schola Graphidis Budensis (Buda Drawing School), Hungary’s oldest national art education institution (founded in 1778) or the later established Königliche Städtische Zeichenschule zu Pest (Pest Drawing School, founded in 1788). The curriculum of the first drawing schools included excercises of the geometry drawing and the drawing of architectural ornaments. In the first decades, series of prints brought from Vienna served as examples for the drawing practice.
