Object description:

The stoneware factory in Krapina was founded about 1800. The first owner, Count Franjo Vojkffy, produced stoneware with a yellowish glaze imitating English crockery, the decorative motifs being taken from the repertoire of the Vienna porcelain manufactory. Josip Lellis, who managed the factory from 1823 to 1851, modernised production and brought in some new shapes of dishes. The three joined little jugs called Čeh-Leh-Meh and the anthropomorphic jug called Krapina Judge soon became its trademarks. Lellis also brought in the jug with the perforated neck. Like Čeh-Leh-Meh, the perforated jug is a jocular piece: to drink from it, you need to be fairly adroit. Joke jugs usually had a comic message on them about drink and instructions about how to drink off the contents.
