Object description:

This silver bowl is part of the collection donated by Dr Ivo and Dr Marija Tuškan of the US to the Museum in 2004, when the Museum of Arts and Crafts received a large donation of objects of applied art. The major part of the Tuškan Donation consists of American silver, mainly 19th and 20th century, specimens that are seldom to be met in this milieu, for American silver did not often get on the trade routes to Europe. This part of the donation is particularly interesting then for the possibility of making comparisons with the European, particularly Austrian and German, silver that prevailed in this country. Among the objects donated products of Duhme and Co stand out; this was the leading firm of its kind in Ohio, its headquarters being in Cincinnati, and it produced high quality use objects, mainly handmade silver vessels.
