Object description:

The faience factory in Holič (Slovakia) was founded in 1743 by Franz of Lotharingia, husband of Maria Theresa. At the beginning the work was much influenced by French faience, and then it imitated dishes of the manufactories in Strassbourg and Höchst, known for their unique forms. Thus in Holič they started producing dishes in the forms of vegetables, fish, birds, human figures. Apart from the marked decorative appearance on the table, the dishes in the form of fish, geese, heads of kale or bunches of asparagus revealed what they held: fish soup, vegetables or foie gras.
