Object description:

The hadas or besomim, the container for spices, is one of the obligatory objects for the final rite of Saturday, for the Havdala holiday that marks the departure from Sabbath and the transition into everyday life. These containers were usually made in the shape of little towers, as are most examples in the collection, but there are some specimens of hadas or besomim in the shape of pine cones, fish or locomotives. This container is done entirely in filigree, in the form of a two-storey four cornered tower with a roof in the shape of a four-sided truncated pyramid. A gallery with railing is located around the lower floor of the tower, in front at the corners of the gallery there are figures of musicians with horn and a lancer, and at the back one more musician and a lancer with a shield. On the corners of the upper and lower floors there are gilt twisted standards with pennants, and a pennant in the form of the head of a sea monster tops off the object.
