Object description:
In the square medallion on the front side of the piece is a motif of a leafing twig, an Illyrian coat of arms a crown and the inscription (translated: Welcome guests dear / No glass you’ve drunk here / Quaff it full of wine / Viva homeland mine).
At the time when the osredek glassworks was active, which is coincidental with the period of the Illyrian Revival, glasses with patriotic slogans decorated with the Illyrian coat of arms and emblems or with the coat of arms of the Triune Kingdom were particularly popular. The start of its work, 1839, was marked with a ceremony in which invited guest received a glass item as a gift. According to tradition, this goblet was received by Ljudevit Gaj, politician, writer and journalist, mover and leader of the Croatian National Revival.
The Osredek works, near Samobor, was founded by Baroness Vilhelmina Kulmer; it was at work until 1904.
