Arketto light

Object description:

Yaacov Kaufman came to Israel at the age of twelve and is one of the most important designers and educators in Israel today. A subject of never-ending personal fascination for Kaufman is the ergonomics of the chair. His 1991 solo exhibition at the Israel Museum, Concept to Product, offered an in-depth presentation of the conceptual process leading to a useful product, including his "Multi X" table lamp manufactured by Lumina Italia. Since he was a sculptor before becoming involved with industrial design, his work constantly crosses the boundaries between design and art; in the 2000 Installation Design exhibition at the Haifa Museum of Art, Kaufman collaborated with Chanan de Lange to produce a monumental site-specific installation, along with personal projects engaging in a dialogue about obscuring the boundaries between these two areas. Since the mid-1980s Yaacov Kaufman has been collaborating with Italian and European manufacturers such as Lumina Italia, Tecno, Arflex, and Sisustuskkuna Oy, Finland. His designs have been shown in important international exhibitions, and he has been awarded many major prizes. In 2003 his "Arketto" light received the Norwegian Design Council Award for Industrial Design Excellence. "Arketto," an elegant design based on well-known principles, is an example of slim-lined flexibility that expresses Kaufman's future-oriented thinking.
