Rare goblet

Institution

The Israel Museum, Jerusalem

Object description:

This elaborate goblet, found in a tomb, stands out sharply against the rather simple finds of the period. Probably an heirloom from Syria, its decoration reveals a rich artistic world of humans, hybrids, and serpents, based on the mythology of the land in which the goblet was created.
