Engraving La Lanterne Magique. J. F. Bosio.
With the industrialization of production processes in the mid nineteenth century, the craft production of magic lanterns shifted towards mass production. The great majority of lanterns were conceived for domestic use. The lanterns were attractively decorated, and though the lighting and lenses, were of low quality, they were acceptable for home projections.
