Magic lantern slide

Object description:

Militar Parade. Chromolithographic magic lantern slide with a continuous scene. Rectangular framework with two overlapping glasses and a gray paper band around. An important step in the mass production of lantern slides was the introduction of a new system in 1865, chromolithography, which made it possible to print in colour over the entire plate. With this system production increased sharply, although the images lost quality. The system arose out of the need to compete with photographic slides plates that could be produced quite quickly. It was a process that was adopted especially with the domestic market for lanterns in mind.
