Object description:

Magic lantern slide with phantasmagoria. Tête de monstre a langue rouge. Black rectangular framework with a fix glass slide. Mobile part on the back with the eyes of the monster. Phantasmagorias were public magic lantern shows that were greatly successful in the end of the eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century. Their popularization and highest technical level in viewing is attributed to E. G. Robert, known as Robertson, working in Paris in 1798. The phantasmagorias were projections based on various tricks with the magic lantern to simulate the appearance of ghosts, spirits and skeletons.
