Portable travel photographic camera
Object description:
Portable travelling camera for maximum 24 x 18 cm glass plates. Folding leather bellows. Lens: Vda. de F. Rusian. Barcelona. Universal Aplanats. Extra Rapid. 18378. Lens vertically adjustable.
Since the beginning of the photography there were various attempts to reduce the size of the cameras, making them portable and adequate for travel. The solution came with the introduction of a folding, leather bellows (souflette in French) that held the objective and made it possible to reduce the camera’s size when it was not being used. This camera reached its peak roughly between 1840 and 1875, though examples were made well into the decade of the 1930s.
