Object description:

Alethoscope. Apparatus invented by the Italian Carlo Ponti. It had the same function of a Panoptic Polyorama, that is, the view of an image (generally a landscape) inside a box with lighting effects that make it change. If with the Panoptic Polyorama engraving were used, with the Alethoscope they were replaced by photographs (preferably albumen prints) that significantly increased the picture’s realism.
