Magic lantern slide for animated projection
Object description:
Lantern wheel of life. Device for projectingt through a magic lantern the effect of phenakistoscope. It is made up of a transparent glass disc (8 cm diameter) with several images painted and a shutter (8 cm diameter).
It was invented by T. Ross in 1871. This was a glass plate for the animated projection of drawings with a magic lantern based on the theory of persistence of vision. It had two disks, one made of brass with a slot (working as a form of shutter) and the other made out of transparent glass with sixteen painted images, breaking down a movement. The two disks were set one against the other on the same axis. By means of a system of strings and gears the two disks turned in opposite directions to produce the desired effect.
