Object description:

Kaleidoscope. Black wooden support ( 15'5 cm diameter x 20 cm ) and golden metal chassis. Invented by the Englishman Sir David Brewster in 1819, the kaleidoscope was one of the most popular optical or play objects of the nineteenth century. It consist of a tube in whose interior small objects (generally colour crystals) can be seen trough a hole placed on one end, reflected by two mirrors set on angles inside of it. By turning the tube, a great variety of forms and colour combinations can be seen.
