Object description:

Gaumont, Kinora CASLA Lumière. Apparatus for viewing Kinora Lumière rolls with photographs (from 500 to 700) in 2.5 x 2 cm x 2 cm 5 tabs. Window on the side equipped with a mirror to capture light from the outside to the inside of the device. This apparatus was invented by the Lumière brothers in 1896 for domestic use. It consisted of a combination of the Filoscope technique and the Mutoscope. The instrument was placed on a table where the images could be seen through a lens with the rotation activated by a handle. The picture on each card corresponded to a cinematographic still film. In a period when visual effects still had an impact, this apparatus made it possible to view a film at home without projecting it, eliminating the need for expensive cinematographic equipment.
