Kodak researched material and techniques to manufacture cameras for the emerging amateur cinema market. The research focused on finding a small format film that was reliable and of high quality. The result was a 16 mm. film put on the market in July 1923. Immediately, and almost simultaneously, cameras and projectors for this film were launched by brands such as Kodak, Victor and Bell & Howell.
