Object description:

Cinema projector, Pathé Baby model A. Format 9. 5 mm. Electric lamp 12 V. Can carry only 10 meters of film. Unbranded lens. Device in black colour with silvery elements. Starting in 1912 Phaté sought to produce an amateur cinema camera that would be easily to use, not overly expensive, not dangerous for the user and able to project small commercial films in the intimacy of the home. They tried this without too much success with the Pathé Kók and later with the Pathéorama. Finally in Christmas of 1922 Pathé began to market a new cinema projector for amateurs, known as the Pathé Baby. It projected 9. 5 mm. film with perforations in the centre closed inside a metallic chassis that meant it was not necessary to touch the film with the hands. It was immediately successful, so that along with the 1000 initial films prepared for the Phaté Baby, 50 more were added each month. From 1923 until the 1950s new and better projectors than the Pathé Baby continually appeared (with 120 metre reels, with electric motors, with automatic rewinding for sound films), with all kinds of accessories that were delight of amateur filmmakers.
